We've kept a low profile since the holidays - due in part to unseasonably cold weather for coastal southern California. Here is our thermometer one chilly mid-January morning... 31 degrees!!

On the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, I did two of the things near and dear to Dr. King's heart. Surfing and ice skating. Here are the girls on their first lap around the rink...Charlotte hasn't gained her confidence on the blades yet...

A few laps later: Charlotte is smiling and Savanah is branching out on her own..

Braiding hair is hard!! We've been braiding Savannah's hair before bedtime for several years. Recently Charlotte's hair has gotten long enough to require it. Here are a couple of my better braids.

Sydney's bedtime routine is lower maintenance. Just say "Sydney, go to bed!"

Breaking the winter doldrums takes some creativity. Here Charlotte & I engage in a camera war after dinner...

Lesli was the referee for the camera war...

Two and a half months after the regular season ended, and deep into the playoffs, Savannah's soccer team finally lost. The girls celebrated with a trophy party. Here Savannah gets her trophy from her coach, Greg Burner...

Nothing shakes off the rust like bowling, eh? Displaying her championship form, here is Savannah slinging her ball...
And yes, watching the ball-retreival-machine is just as much fun for kids today as it was for me when I was a kid...
Not to be outdone, here goes Charlotte...

Charlotte is celebrating a great roll (it only hit the bumpers 4 times!)...

And the queen machine of bowling throwing a strike...
...with that "I'm gonna beat Dan" smile...
Alas, she didn't beat Dan, who rolled a career-high 140. Unfortunately his nickname "Danimal" was curtailed by the screen to the girly-man name: "Dani" (grr)...

Towards the end of January, I went to GA on business and spent the weekend with my family. Here is my sister Julie & her niece Whitney...

Julie has dogs. Julie's dogs are happy dogs. They love to retreive. Here they are waiting for her to throw the stick...first up: the energetic Max...

Next the beautiful Elle...

And handsome Red...
Coming up in February: our ski trip to Mammoth!! Stay tuned. XXOO -DK
